Fireside chat with Mike Barclay

Who is Mike?

Seasoned, down to earth experienced leader. I have the gifts of being both thoroughly trained in sales, marketing and leadership theories, couples with 20years success as a senior leader. This enables me to triage issues and remove barriers to success, develop talent, manage stakeholders and deliver incremental growth in capacity and results.

Tell us more about your role in Affise – performance marketing software.

Affise had experienced a long period of flat and sometime negative revenue growth. I Joined as Global VP to establish what was need to reignite performance on to implement the strategy. The teams were in China, Berlin, Ukraine, India and South East Asia. I arrested the decline and delivered against plan creating double digit growth month on month.

What is the most difficult part of your job? But the most rewarding one?

People!!

Is there anything that you would change about your professional path?

I don’t do regrets, there are clearly occasions where hindsight tells us we could have made a better decision, done a better job, been a better person / leader. I see those times as opportunities to learn and grow. Some “failures” are our biggest growth points. If you never fail you never fail you are not pushing hard enough.

What’s your key strategy for the development of your company?

Diversification, focus on where we can add the most values, being very very targeted at those opportunities and not always reacting to what comes through the door.

What do you think about the next period of time, keeping in mind the pandemic and the new business climate? How will your industry be affected?

It will need to do what I am saying above. In a time of plenty we can grow our businesses just riding the wave of opportunity. In times of scarcity a laser focus on what is most valuable and honing our skills at delivering that whilst wrapping our arms around the customers who use us best is the best way to not only thrive but emerge stronger.

Please name a few technologies which have the greatest impact on your business.

Slack, Linkedin, CRM, Call listening, mobile, 5G.

What books do you have on your nightstand?

  • Kind folks finish first
  • CHUMs
  • Leadership and the one minute manager
  • A quantum murder
