Fireside chat with Roman Sorocan EMBA

Who is Roman?

A futurist and a cloud consultant helping enterprises prepare and cope with constant technological disruptions. My vision and purpose is to democratise AI, thus provide tech solutions for companies and executives while helping the embrace change and aiming to bridge the gap between AI & Humans.

Tell us more about your role in Searce Inc.

My work at Searce is focused on helping organisations maximise the value of Google Cloud, Google Workspace, Apigee and AWS. As a director I aim at building a culture of solution oriented consultants who help our clients disrupt their industries, optimise for multi cloud requirements and constantly adapt to the Future of Work revolution.

What is the most difficult part of your job? But the most rewarding one?

The most difficult part is scaling our team and hire fast enough. Finding the right talent is truly challenging and I used to underestimate the value of a right hire. However, once the right person joins your team and you see them flourish and succeed makes my job extremely rewarding, inspiring and impactful.

Is there anything that you would change about your professional path?

Not at all! I had multiple opportunities over time and managed to work in Malaysia, USA, Bulgaria, Ireland, Poland and now in the UK. This exposure to cultures and roles in Marketing, Technology, Beverage Manufacturing, Online Publishing and other industries allowed me to broaden my horizon and build a network of brilliant experts from multiple fields. The only thing I would change is my second degree and swap economics for computer science.

What’s your key strategy for the development of your company?

My key strategy is to Fail Fast & Move on!
I believe the world around us and especially technology is changing so fast that you can’t use same business, sales and management techniques they used 20 or 10 or even 5 years ago. Hence the most important skill I try to foster in my team is fast innovation, which truly pushes the boundaries and makes us think out of the box.

What do you think about the next period of time, keeping in mind the pandemic and the new business climate? How will your industry be affected?

I think the pandemic was a major catalyst for our industry. Future of Work got the right attention and organisations realised that their traditional vendors can’t cope with the expectations their employees have.
Same for the Cloud solutions, which are paramount for scalability, innovation and cost optimisation. And if the economy slows down businesses will require our services to help them improve their current tech ecosystem.

Please name a few technologies which have the greatest impact on your business.

Google Workspace is one most important tools that underpins our business externally and internally. AWS, Google Cloud, Apigee and Google Maps have all contributed to our success, new business models and overall success.
