Fireside chat with Wesley Baker, CEO&Co-Founder of Canterbury AI

Who is Wesley Baker?

I am a fun-loving, thrill-seeking, entrepreneurial, and happy person. I believe in enjoying life, making a difference and trying to improve humankind. I have a range of experience and started my first business at 14, writing computer games.

I enjoy finding things that have never been done before or seeing opportunities that could be used for a business; that is such an incredible feeling. I love the travel industry and have spent over 50% of my career within that sector. I am a surfer through and through; I love just relaxing in waves with friends, and travelling has a truly close place in my heart.

The bottom line is I love to dream and to try and achieve that dream, I most certainly do not like to conform to standard normality.

What’s the story behind Canterbury AI?

Canterbury Ai came about by accident really; many things fell into place at the correct time, which led to a perfect team that I am proud to be part of. Our first SaaS (Software as a service) is an Ai product and came about when I was highly frustrated with the current offerings on the marketplace. I knew and had a gut feeling we could produce something more exciting called Blue Strawberry.

We have two sides to the company, focused on Business to Consumer/Business (b2c/b) and another division that focuses specifically on Business to Business in markets such as Medical, Pollution, Space, Travel, Environmental and other industries.

What was the most difficult part of your experience in the early beginnings?

We started trading right in the middle of a lockdown with Covid19 Pandemic; we all worked at home and had a virtual office. Our developers are global, so we were experiencing a range of difficulties due to sickness, but we weathered the storm well by realising that you can not change it; you must work with it. Once you change your mindset, it is easier to move forward.

What are you most proud of regarding your business?

I believe we have overcome much and achieved against a hostile business environment due to Covid19. We have a fantastic new product in Blue Strawberry, and I am super proud of the team for making it happen.

What is your vision for the future of Canterbury AI?

Canterbury Ai is a SaaS Software powerhouse. To be honest, we are looking at using Ai to better the world and make it more accessible for a host of businesses and save costs for those businesses. We want to make a change and improve peoples lives. We have no boundaries or industry where we do not wish to have some form of a product.

What’s your advice for the businesses that are trying to adapt to this economic climate?

You must adapt or die; it is that straightforward. The world of business and technology is moving so fast it is exciting. If you do not change then, you will not succeed. So the best advice I can say is “do not put off to tomorrow what you can do today”.

Please name a few technologies which have the greatest impact on your business.

Well, I would say our relationship with Amazon is fantastic; that has enabled us to advance the business so quickly and effectively scale up. We do not cut costs on technology at all, so we all have the latest laptops, phones and other gadgets that allow us to stay in contact and communicate effectively.

What books do you have on your nightstand?

I have multiple, actually, and it might shock you. Currently, I have The Glory Boys by Douglas Reeman, Surf is where you find it by Gerry Lopez, Elon Musk – A Mission to Save the World by Anna Crowley Redding, Will Tanner – U.S. Deputy Marshal by William W. Johnstone and finally How to Avoid a Climate Disaster by Bill Gates. A real range in that selection, but that is me; I am like that with Music too, I can listen to classical music and also heavy metal, I enjoy country and jazz etc…

Because of the current economic climate our publication has started a series of discussions with professional individuals meant to engage our readers with relevant companies and their representatives in order to discuss their involvement, what challenges they have had in the past and what they are looking forward to in the future. This sequence aims to present a series of experiences, recent developments, changes and downsides in terms of their business areas, as well as their goals, values, career history, the high-impact success outcomes and achievements.
