Ineos will test converting plastic waste into food packaging in the United Kingdom

Ineos Group, a chemical giant, will conduct a trial in the United Kingdom to recycle plastic into packaging for chocolate bars, snacks, and pet food.

Plastic Energy, a producer of synthetic oil made from waste plastic, has teamed with the processing company at the Grangemouth refinery outside of Edinburgh. The idea could result in the country’s first factory to recycle plastics using the product known as pyrolysis oil.

Ineos is the latest business to investigate waste reduction and emission reduction technology. The Finnish company Neste Oyj has set a goal of processing more than 1 million tons of plastic trash per year by 2030.

The Grangemouth pilot program will commence in the first quarter of next year.

The construction of a large-scale advanced recycling plant will be informed by this trial and the evolution of the policy environment in the United Kingdom, the companies said in a joint statement.
